Sustainable Sailing Club
Club Nautique Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
Located on the stunning French Riviera, this competition entry for Club Nautique Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat focuses on creating a sustainable, innovative sailing club facility with enhanced capacity for its members. The proposal introduces a rooftop bar and restaurant, providing a versatile space for sailing events and displays while offering panoramic views of the surrounding coastline.
A standout feature of the design is the all-weather boat and sail area, capable of accommodating up to 20 boats. The space is designed to optimise conditions for drying and storing sails, while the unique hanging sails provide an eye-catching view of the club from the nearby beach.
Sustainability is at the heart of this design, with sliding screens and canopies crafted from recycled waste seagrass, which washes up on local shores. This renewable resource, crucial to marine ecosystems, not only adds a distinctive aesthetic to the club but also promotes environmental awareness, diverting waste from landfills and reducing costs for the local authority.
In addition, 73% of the existing structure is retained, minimising the demand for new construction and celebrating the old building's legacy. A mural created by local artists, inspired by the works of renowned local artist Jean Cocteau, honours the region's rich artistic heritage.
