Chalkhill, Surrey Hills

Nestled in the picturesque Surrey Hills, Chalkhill is a new-build detached home with stunning views of a prestigious vineyard. The design welcomes visitors with a striking double-height entrance hall, where your gaze is immediately drawn to the landscape beyond, framed by a wide, barn-style sliding door.

Taking advantage of the site’s gently sloping topography, we introduced playful level changes throughout the ground floor. These varied floor heights create distinct yet connected spaces, each with a unique character, while maintaining a visual and physical link to the rear garden. The first floor remains level, with the principal room featuring a balcony and an en-suite designed to maximise rear-facing views through expansive glazing. When the project evolved to accommodate the family’s new addition, the design was thoughtfully adapted without compromising our original vision.

The exterior garden received a comprehensive redesign, integrating stone retaining walls to form terraced lawns and wildflower beds. At the end of the garden, a multipurpose garden room with a terrace, a greenhouse, and raised planting beds invite outdoor enjoyment. The original pond has been carefully preserved, providing a tranquil spot from which to admire the completed residence and its harmonious connection with the landscape.
